Exploding onto the stage like fun from a gun comes the Axis Of Awesome – enigmatic frontman Jordan Raskopoulos, Lilliputian keyboardist Benny Davis and the cow who would be Satan, Lee Naimo, ready to wage an almighty Jihad on all things staid and boring in comedy.

Battle begins with a riotous number showcasing the groups musical talent and sharp, intricate wordplay, and winds up in much the same manner, with the youTube sensation ‘4 chord song’ taking on everyone from Lady GaGa to Crowded House in highly enjoyable fashion.

Along the way Bob Dylan turns into the Crazy Frog, there is much drinking of honey, Sex on Fire by The Kings Of Leon is re-worked a platitude of times in increasingly hilarious ‘Surprise Songs’, and God of the Sea, Poseidon falls in love with a legal secretary.

Throughout the performance, the Axis Of Awesome delves into their impressive arsenal of physical and vocal talents to bring wild, brilliant, inane and babbling abstract humour to the masses, pairing their wordsmith intelligence with ridiculous props and a well paced series of unique segments. For the most part, the jokes and songs fizz off the stage with ease, while the (very) occasional mediocre gag is rescued by extreme physical posturing and the subsequent snappy-but-scripted onstage banter.

Leaving politics entirely out of their 55 minute war on boredom, Jordan, Benny and Lee espouse their ‘make em laugh at anything’ agenda superbly, relegating their obvious musical talents largely to the background to create a genuinely exciting and engaging show, complete with songs about the effects of taking acid and a 5 minute stint reading aloud letters they’ve written to themselves.

To the obvious disappointment of certain audience members, these 4 Star Generals of comedy won’t sign male genitalia after curtains down, but they will drink glow sticks and turn German WWII propaganda into love songs. Sign up now before the war is over.
